Hi, folks.
Well, I'm back from China and over jet lag. It was a great trip. The
regulars said it was different from any trip yet, but I think they say
that about every one. This was my second and our church's 12th.
Cleary Baptist goes twice a year, once in the spring and once in the
fall. It is awesome to see God work. I had spent a good deal of time
with Marisa, a student at Harbin, when I went in the spring of 2006.
A seed was planted and watered on the 2 succeeding trips. She
informed us this time she had become a believer during the summer. We
showed the "Jesus" film in the mornings and "The Passion" in the
afternoon. I think there were probably about 6 or 7 decisions this
time. I would forget to journal, so I'm not sure. Our leader, Jerry,
was asked by a local IMB missionary to teach the leaders of the house
churches, so he spent much of his time doing that. The rest of us
followed up on previous contacts and on those made at the two English
corners we attended on Wednesday and Thursday night. The English
corners are where the students gather to practice speaking in
English. After the English corner on Thursday night, we took a taxi
away from the hotel where we were staying and walked around discreetly
distributing copies of the "Jesus" film and The Passion". That was
fun - sorta like politicking. We must have been hoofing it pretty
good because we ended up back on campus which is near the hotel.
However, finding an open gate at that hour took some time. It was
about midnight before we got back to the hotel. ---- Another unusual
event ---- Jerry baptized 3 new believers in a bathtub. We had to
rent a room at a different hotel (ours had only showers). Attached
are photos of baptizees, Jerry and Pastor Peter Pan, the rest of the
team and some long time Chinese friends.
Thanks for your prayer support,
Shirley Alice "Sam" Marter Roberson
